As a 4-year Preuss student and a part of the class of 2026, Pedro Lugo-Porres will be graduating this June. He’s opening up his future beyond high school with his acceptance into UC Riverside. Here are his answers to a few questions about his experiences and future:
Q: What do you plan to major in and why did you pick it?
A: “I plan to major in mathematics because I have always had a strong affinity to it. It’s one of the subjects that I enjoy doing because it’s actually fun.”
Q: What has been the most challenging part of senior year or high school?
A: “The most challenging part of senior year is the workload. You have college applications, PIQ workshops, Research, Internship, Senior Exhibition and on top of that rigorous courses. There is always something important to do, it really doesn’t start to slow down until the semester ends.”
Q: What do you think makes Preuss different from other schools?
A: “Preuss is a lot different from other schools because it makes you take AP and advanced classes. There is no exception. It also provides students with a lot of internship, scholarship and educational opportunities that a lot of other schools do not offer. It’s also very diverse in the aspect of ethnic and religious backgrounds.”
Q: What advice do you have for upcoming and future seniors?
A: “Do not slack off or wait until the last minute for anything. It might get tiring and immense but it’s your last year, you got to end off strong. Make sure you apply to scholarships and take advantage of any opportunities. Form a strong connection with your teachers this year as they will help with letters of recommendation and help you even after high school.”
Q: What has been your biggest motivation throughout high school?A: “I will be the first in my family to attend a four year university and that is the motivation that has allowed me to get through high school. All the work I put in is for my future and family, so we can have a sustainable future.”
Q: What are your plans for life after college?
A: “My plans after college are to become a math teacher, pursue engineering, or get a job regarding finance. I still don’t know what I want to do with my major, but all I know is that the job market is diverse.”
Q: What is your favorite memory of high school at Preuss?
A: “My favorite memory at Preuss is being able to experience varsity soccer with the team in my senior year.”
We only wish the best for Pedro’s future, no matter what he ends up pursuing and accomplishing. Congratulations on your graduation, Pedro!
