On March 12th, 2026, Alessandro “Al” Madrigal paid a visit to The Preuss School, speaking with two 9th grade English classes. The comedian was passing through La Jolla as part of his stand up tour when he was invited by English teacher Mr. Scott. 

According to his website, Al Madrigal honed his comedic voice in the San Francisco stand up comedy scene, emerging with a unique comedic voice focused on storytelling about his life, family, and multiethnic background. 

He rose to fame as a regular correspondent on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, and has since starred in a variety of shows and movies, including Curb Your Enthusiasm and The Way Back with Ben Affleck. Madrigal is also known for starting the All Things Comedy podcast network, and performing on talk shows.  

While at Preuss, Madrigal emphasized the importance of boldness, exploration, and adaptability, connecting these lessons to his experiences. He described his current projects, including a comedy special and horror movie script. Madrigal also discussed working in different mediums, such as his Mexican and Mayan influenced Marvel comic book, Primos. 

Al Madrigal advocated for students to pursue their interests, especially creative endeavors. He encouraged good questions and sought to draw out insightful conversation, often lightly teasing students, especially when one student requested for a roast.
