From June 1 to June 3, seniors could be spotted around Preuss wearing formal clothing in order to present their Senior Exhibitions, one of the last graduation requirements that they needed to complete before the end of their last year of high school.
The Senior Exhibition is a presentation that all Preuss graduates must complete before they can get their diploma. It consists of three separate projects: service learning, internship, and research projects. Each one makes up close to a third of the entire presentation.
“For me personally, the hardest part of the entire Senior Exhibition was the research project, ” shared Josue Gonzalez Yanez (‘26)
Seniors like Yanez have been working throughout this entire school year on the separate parts of the presentation. The internship and research project and portions are split into two semesters of senior year, each one dedicated to completing one of the two portions.
After completing their projects, the seniors are expected to present them in front of a panel of randomly selected adults. These can include teachers, Preuss alumni, and other people who are affiliated with the school and wanted to listen to and grade the student presentations.
“One of the scariest parts of the presentation for me was that I didn’t know who was going to be on my panel until the day I was presenting,” expressed German Aguayo (‘26).
The importance of these presentations can not be underestimated as it has been a long held tradition of Preuss for the Senior Exhibition to be included as a requirement for graduation.
“Thinking about how much pressure was on that presentation did make me a lot more nervous than I already was,” Yanez stated.
Going through this process is something that all future seniors of Preuss must anticipate and even prepare for if they plan on graduating at this school. It can be seen as a final display of almost everything that students have worked to achieve by attending Preuss.
Future graduates can also expect to start the actual process of Senior Exhibition much earlier than past classes did as well. The service learning portion, which is a group project of community service volunteering work, is actually completed in the junior year in order to ease the stress and workload of the upcoming year.
Congratulations to all of the graduating seniors of the class of 2026 who passed their Senior Exhibitions!
