Gambling is a very risky thing to do, especially when you are up against the Devil. Two brothers, Cuphead and Mugman, the two protagonists from the game Cuphead made the mistake of putting their souls on the line, and when faced with the Devil, they could not win. Now they are forced to go out and adventure to fight bosses to try their best to restore their lost souls from the devil.
Cuphead is an old co-op run-and-gun game released in 2017 created by Indie. It is basically a game that consists of the player just running around and jumping shooting enemies through the levels. Cuphead has been regarded as one of the hardest games to complete by all of the gaming community because of its hard mechanics to master, complicated patterns to memorize, and little room to run around when fighting a boss. Additionally this game has no check points whatsoever, so when the player dies the player must start over, and also have good reflexes to dodge some moves.
In this game the players are graded depending on how well the player did in that level, and they grade you based on how many times the player got hit and how many times the player is able to parry an attack. Due to this, the game allows the player to go beyond just completing the story. It allows the player to get a perfect grade in each individual level. This game also includes an in-game currency to buy new types of shooting. For example a gun that tracks the enemy but deals less damage. The player can get the currency by completing these levels called “run-n-guns” where it is kinda like a Mario level, where you run to the finish line while beating enemies. While running you can encounter coins which need to be collected and used in the store.
After playing the game, I am now confidently able to say that this game lives up to its reputation. It is one of the hardest games to complete. It for sure deserves to be one of the top ten hardest games to beat. It took me over 100 hours of gameplay for me to beat the game, and this was done over the course of two weeks.
“Yes cuphead for sure deserves to be top 10 on this list because there is just too much going on to keep track of everything and getting used to the movement takes time,” shared Alex Munoz(‘27).
Munoz is well versed in games like Cuphead and also thinks that this game is hard because of its complicated gameplay.
Even after eight years of being released, this game has been able to stand strong and hold its position as one of the top ten hardest to beat games in the world.
