Obsession was released in theaters on May 15, 2026. Directed by Curry Barker, the film tells a creepy emotional story about love, obsession, and the dangers of wishes coming true. Obsession is a horror movie that I recommend to people who enjoy suspense and scary moments.
The plot consists of the main character Bear, played by Michael Johnston, a shy music store owner who has a big crush on his childhood friend Nikki. Wanting to earn her love, Bear uses an object called the One Wish Willow to make a wish come true. At first everything seems perfect but things take a turn when Nikki’s love becomes extreme and dangerous. Bear quickly realizes that his wish has created a nightmare he can’t tame.
As the movie progresses, viewers watch Bear struggle with the consequences of his decisions. The film shows how obsession can become harmful when people try to control the feelings of others. It also explores themes of loneliness, love, and regret. Throughout the story Bear learns that some wishes come true with big consequences and getting what you want is not always a good thing.
What makes Obsession stand out were the actors’ performances when acting. Michael Johnston does a great job portraying Bear as a nervous and relatable character who is haunted by his own mistakes. His performance makes it easy for viewers to understand his emotion and connect with his struggles. Inde Navarrette also delivers a performance to remember as Nikki, showing how her character changes from normal friend into someone more scary.
Another strength of the movie is its atmosphere. The dark lighting, creepy visuals, and intense close up helps create suspense throughout the film. Director Curry Baker keeps viewers on edge by slowly building tension and making every scene feel important.
Obsession is a well made horror film that delivers both scary and important lessons about the dangers of trying to control people we care about. I really enjoyed the suspense because it’s similar to Alfred Hitchcock’s films. I think anyone who enjoys scary stories with a good plot should definitely go watch this film.
