The Finance club offered a fun opportunity to students to raise money through Pi Week, where students were allowed to “pie” their friends and teachers. Pi week took place from March 10 to March 13, with the freshmen on March 10th, juniors on March 11th, sophomores on March 12th, and seniors on March 13th. This event has also helped the high school grades to raise money for their year.
It has now been four years since Pi Week returned after the pandemic, and the event still brings excitement and school spirit back to Preuss according to Mr Hua, the advisor of the Finance Club.
Finance Club members wanted to find ways to make Pi Week even more entertaining this year.
“We wanted to find a way to bring more school spirit back after the Yondr pouch enforcement while also creating something fun that could help students raise money,” said Adonay Ekubaselase (‘26), Vice President of Finance Club.
Not only have students showed school spirit but teachers also showed school spirit by participating in Pi week. Pi Week has allowed more students to participate because they had an opportunity to pie their own teachers.
“I wanted to pie Ms. Parker because I saw that no one was really going to pie her. I also started to think about all those IXLS she didn’t want to grade,” states Maria Loureiro (‘29).
While some students found the fundraiser entertaining, not everyone had the same experience.
Eric Nguyen (‘27) stated that he ended up with a busted lip after being pied too hard by his friends.
Another student, Nahom Abebe(‘27), faced a small injury when the edge of the paper plate used for pie scraped his neck and caused it to bleed slightly.
“At first it hurt and I was surprised because I didn’t expect the plate to hit that hard,” Abebe said. “But overall it was still fun and I’m glad people were enjoying Pi-Week.”
“I hope the Finance Club continues Pi Week while making sure everyone is safe,” Abebe added.
Even though some students experience small injuries during the event, Pi week continues to be one of the most anticipated fundraisers at Preuss.
Students who did not participate still gathered to watch the event and react to their classmates and teachers getting pied.
“ I like Pi Week because it’s something fun that brings students together, and I hope it stays a tradition at Preuss for years,” Selam Taye (‘27) said.
Despite the messy results, Pi Week continues to bring excitement, laughter, and school spirit to campus while also helping raise money for future activities and events for each grade level.
