Students can now donate different pieces of clothing to contribute to the Sharia’s Closet clothing drive, organized by three of our juniors. Donations can be dropped off by any student at class E101 from December 8th through the 19th.
Donna Arroyo Alves, Dorian Santana Bustos, and Kailani Mojica chose to support this clothing drive as a part of an important project for junior year. It fulfills one of the essential requirements in completing the project together.
Their support in this clothing drive shows just how committed they are not only to the school and their education, but also to the well-being of their community.
“We chose to do a clothing drive because it’s something that a lot of communities need, and we want to help as many people as possible,” said Arroyo Alves (‘27).
The Service Learning Project is assigned to all juniors before their senior year, and the objective is to participate in service work that can be measured which helps a community. It is a requirement in order to graduate from Preuss, and for their project, these three juniors decided to collaborate with a non-Preuss organization, Sharia’s Closet.
They are pushing for more students to find the will to measure their values and willingness to help their community while also contributing to one of their graduation requirements.
“We believe in the same values as Sharia’s Closet, and we are volunteering to help them along with their mission,” explained Dorian Santana Bustos (‘27).
Sharia’s Closet is a non-profit organization in San Diego dedicated to providing free clothing to people in a crisis or emergency situation. This organization is focused on treating people with dignity and respect, no matter what their background or needs are.
With the help of the three Preuss juniors supporting this clothing drive, a location has been established on campus where ordinary students can also help towards the cause. If possible, students are asked to bring relatively new or slightly used clothing, and in the end, they will be collected and given to the organization so the clothes can be properly distributed.
