The beloved show Malcolm in the Middle is getting a spin off. The streaming service Hulu has developed the spinoff that will take place 20 years in the future from the show’s events, called Malcolm in the Middle: Life Still Unfair. The spinoff is supposed to explore the future of Malcolm’s life, and show what has happened to him and his chaotic family over the years. The show will include the original actor for Malcolm, Frankie Muniz, and both of the original parents, Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek, will also return . The spinoff will be released on April 10th.
The original Malcolm in the Middle is a sitcom created by director Linwood Boomer and was aired from the years 2000 to 2006. The show revolves around the main character Malcolm, a genius teenager who is trying to get his mother to see him as an equal and his family of seven siblings. Malcolm has four brothers, Francis, Recce, Dewey, and Jaime. Some of his brothers are highly talented: Reece is a culinary genius, and Dewey has proficiency in music. Despite their talents, the family is dysfunctional as they are always having big arguments over nothing and tend to take arguments too far. This chaos and destruction they create within the family is why the show is so popular.
The new series will focus on Malcolm and his attempt to live a stable independent life away from his dysfunctional family; however, his family does not intend to let Malcolm live his own life. This new series explores how Malcolm finds a way around his family re-entering his life while they bring chaos and destruction to him.
According to the trailer on Youtube, we know that the plot consists of Malcolm being invited by his parents to their wedding anniversary. He will be accompanied by his daughter. Malcolm and his brothers will also be reuniting at the event, which creates a perfect setup for conflict and emotional moments. We will be able to see Malcolm in a new role being a father. We are also informed on social media that almost the whole original cast will be returning except for Jaime’s actors, James and Luka Rodriguz, who will be replaced by actor Anthony Tiamano, and Dewey’s original actor Erik Per Sullivan will be replaced by actor Caleb Ellsworth-Clark.
I definitely plan to watch this show. This show was one of my favorites when I was a kid and seeing that they will be making a spin off has brought so many memories. When the show ended Malcolm’s goal was to become president of the United States, and I am looking forward to seeing if he accomplished this. I recommend this new series to anyone who grew up watching Malcolm in the Middle.
Overall Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair promises to bring back the humor and chaos that made the original show so memorable.
