Spring Break is now over. Unfortunately, around this time, students start to lose focus on school. The classes do not feel as important, assignments start to pile up, and many relied on the break as a way to catch up on everything. This is understandable because who wouldn’t be ready to relax for a while? Yet, this is also the time when students start falling behind the most.
One of the biggest problems is procrastination. This is because many students start to tell themselves they will do their work later, which causes them to keep pushing back more of their assignments. At the start, it does not feel as if it is bad because you have a whole break to do your work, but this causes the amount of assignments to increase. This creates more missing assignments, and this later builds stress due to one trying to catch up on the work. Instead of relaxing the whole break, students should have done a little bit of work instead of increasingly slacking off as the break progressed.
Another problem is that many students start to think the work does not really matter as much anymore. The reason is because as the final break arrives, so does the end of school, so it feels like everything is already over so students stop trying as much as they used to. The truth is that all these remaining days still count and matter a lot because they can still negatively affect one’s grade more than expected. The best method to combat this would be to study before, during, and after break, and get all assignments from class and homework finished.
The best way to avoid all of this is by trying to stay organized. When students keep track of their assignments and their due dates it actually helps many see what is needed to do, to get everything done instead of just forgetting about it. When schedules are planned out and organized, it is a lot easier to stay on top of assignments and not fall behind; for example, writing down all your homework in a planner or using your phone as a reminder for due dates to make sure nothing gets forgotten.
Lastly, one thing that helps entirely is time management, and how a student controls their own time. Many students waste time during class by talking to their friends, messing around, and remaining distracted, which leads to more work being uncompleted. One of the best ways to practice time management is setting a timer for a certain amount of time, like 20-30 minutes, and fully focus on studying or doing assignments only. In addition, the best strategy is to recognize this last stretch and it is crucial to do work to not fail your classes.
At the end of the day spring break is supposed to be a relaxing period for students, but the responsibility is on the student to retain their focus and drive even before as well as after the break concludes.
