YES, Technology Does Create Lonely People
Julius Molina
Technology is everywhere. Everyone now has phones, computers, wrist watches, and almost all fields of jobs use technology to be effective, but this technology makes us lonely.
In this new generation, children are attached to their tablet. However, parents giving their children the tablet can cause negative effects at a young age to their brains. Most parents give their kids the tablet when they are crying, making it easier for the parents to calm their child but it is awful for their brains. It is terrible for their brains due to the fact that screen time takes away from their learning experiences, exploration of nature, daily activities, and communication. For example, when kids get older, they will not be in touch with their emotions, families, or their peers. They will only be attracted to the screen so they will get isolated. That is why parents teaching them to get attached to phones and tablets at a young age can have a negative effect on them later in life.
When children get into their early to mid teens, they start to shut out everyone because of their strong attachment to their electronic devices. They’re in their rooms all day and they lock onto the screen in front of them because they were used to doing that since they were children. Then when it is time to eat, they eat in their room alone, shutting out their families. The DailyMail.com website states in their article called “The five signs your child is addicted to their iPad,” it talks on how it may interrupt their eating time and their eating habits. When at school, most kids shut out everyone and don’t pay attention to the people around them. For example, many students do so because of problems happening at home.
Most teens are locked in with their music and cancel out everybody around them. When lunch time comes around, they eat alone at a table without friends. When school dances occur, they don’t attend because they have no friends and because they’d rather be locked in their room on the video game. They don’t get to experience all the good times high school has to offer.
As a result, technology has a lonely impact and messes with our brains, mostly because of using the tablets at a young age. There are families that don’t agree with giving their children the tablet. That is a great idea, but there are people who disagree with that. Their strong attachment to their electronic devices
NO, Technology Does Not Create Lonely People
Alexia De La Mora
Our generation has become attached to technology, which has caused arguments on whether it is impacting us negatively or positively.
Although many people believe that technology is an extremely bad influence on everyone, society is not acknowledging the positive impacts. In general, yes, there have been some negative effects from technology such as attachment to a device, depression, insecurities, and even laziness. Still, these can easily be avoided with the right mentality and maturity.
Since around 2010, younger kids starting from the age of two have been given an iPad to keep them from having tantrums. Many are in disagreement with this parental method, but others don’t bother them as much as giving their child a device helps them plenty. For example, my mom has three kids and is still a college student. My 11-year-old brother and I have schoolwork and chores, so it is hard for the three of us to take care of my 3-year-old brother. Although my mom doesn’t like giving my baby brother a device, it is her only choice. To avoid him from becoming attached to the device, she limits the amount of time he is on the device and also puts on learning shows and games that educate him rather than “Rot his brain.”
This is a good example of how to avoid addiction to devices. Keeping a limit on kids and young adults helps a lot since their brains aren’t fully developed; they should not have full access to media without at least a little bit of supervision on what exactly they’re doing.
One of the main reasons that people are still debating on whether or not it’s a good thing to give young children and even teens a form of technology to include in their daily life routine.
Now it is a common necessity for work and school, especially when it comes to jobs in the office which require a great amount of communication such as sending various emails a day or making constant Zoom calls, as well as online school work from elementary to college students.
Since we have included all types of technology into our lives it would be much harder to just get rid of it since it is a part of our life from either when we were young or even since some of us were born. This is why I believe that instead of complaining about it we should work with technology and healthily shape our lives towards these new and improving technologies.
