Ray-Ban, in collaboration with Meta, has turned a normal pair of classic Ray-Ban glasses into a fashionable and practical tech device. In total, Ray-Ban has released three different options: Meta Ray-Ban gen one, Meta Ray-Ban gen two, and the Meta Ray-Ban display. All three versions were released with the integrated Meta AI, cameras, speakers, and bluetooth connectivity to smartphones. These glasses are highly versatile and useful for daily use.
The Meta Ray-Ban Gen 1 has a starting price of $319, with the option with Transition lenses that become clear indoors and get darker outside when hit by the sun for $400. They come in glossy or matte black options and a variety of different colored lenses. The glasses come in the classic Wayfarer frame for men or Skyler frame for women. It also comes with a charging case and cleaning cloth.
The Meta Ray-ban (Gen 1) has a total battery life of 3 to 4 hours with moderate use or AI features and camera usage. Continuous audio streaming lasts roughly 2 to 3 hours and comes with an extra 32 hours of battery with their charging case. They feature an ultrawide 12 MP camera that can take pictures at around 4K resolution, but is limited to around 1080p (full HD) at 30 fps for video taking with a maximum recording time of three minutes. The camera is limited to vertical oriented filming and picture taking capabilities are intended to work for social media platforms like Tiktok and Instagram that mainly use this format.
The AI capabilities are also very useful for everyday use. With the glasses on, having to take your phone out is almost unnecessary. The AI allows the user to listen to music, make calls, send messages, and ask questions. The Live AI feature also allows Meta AI to respond to questions regarding your environment using the camera in real time. Other features included with the AI are live translation and conversation focus, which uses the speakers and microphones to play exactly what the person in front of you is saying. The included haptic touchbar on the side of the glasses allows the user to control the volume, pause and play music, and activate Meta AI.
Meta Ray-Ban glasses are very useful and modern looking glasses that are perfect for content creators and tech enthusiasts. I believe that these glasses could be helpful in school when used appropriately. For example, the conversation focus could allow students sitting in the back to be able to hear the teacher more clearly and the music could help students focus while still being aware of any instructions given to the class.
After about a month of using the glasses in different settings, I believe these glasses are very useful and stylish. The Meta Ray-Ban’s are lightweight and look just like normal glasses, which makes them very practical. Even if you don’t want to use their technology you can use them as any other type of glasses. The transition lenses also allow the user to use them inside and outside to continue using the technological features in any scenario.
The speakers with directional audio also make them very good for listening to music while still being aware of your surroundings or being in a quiet room and have no one notice you have audio playing. Meta AI is also very useful as it eliminates the need to take out a phone every time you need some form of information. The overall uses of the glasses allow them to adapt to the needs of any individual and work as a great addition to a tech collection. These glasses are worth every penny.
