The Preuss Class of 2025 is awaiting to graduate in less than a month and ready to take on the path to college after summer. Diego Albarran is excited to start a new chapter in his life in a new environment away from his hometown of San Diego. He is ready to graduate from Preuss and is set to go to UC Riverside to study Chicano Studies.
Question: What college will you be attending?
“I’m planning to go to UC Riverside.”
Question: What is your major?
“Chicano studies.”
Question: Why did you choose your major?
“Growing up, my family and I volunteered at local parks and churches, giving food to low-income Mexican families and Hispanic homeless individuals. This experience ignited my passion for helping people from my culture facing financial struggles and food insecurity due to social injustices against Mexican immigrants in America.”
“Studying Chicano studies will give me insight into Mexican immigrant history and the injustices they face. With this knowledge, I hope to work on government policies to fight against injustice towards immigrant families. I also aim to create organizations providing essential resources like food and clothing to struggling immigrant families of all backgrounds.”
Question: What is your dream job after you graduate college?
“My dream job would be an administrator of nonprofit organizations that help low-income families with resources and access to healthcare. Or, I might change my major to Architecture since I love designing/drawing projects and it seems like an interesting career.”
Question: What will you miss most about Preuss and high school?
“I am going to miss hanging out with my friends after school and playing soccer with them.”
Question: What is the main reason as to why you picked the college you are attending?
“I picked UC Riverside because not only will I receive higher education, but I can experience a new lifestyle and grow as a person independently. Also, It will be a fun environment to meet new people.”
Question: Do you see yourself continuing playing sports in college?
“I will be continuing playing soccer in college, if not for the UCR team then in some team in Riverside.”
