“On My Block” Comes Out with New Season

A Netflix Original show that many teenagers and young adults love, On My Block, has come out with their new and final season on October 4, 2021 after leaving fans wondering what happened and what will happen with the main characters on On My Block, like Ruby Martinez, Marisol Martinez, Jamal Turner, Cesar Diaz, Jasmine, Monse Finnie and side characters like Latrelle or Chivo, after the unfortunate ending on season 3.

Season 4 of the show takes place two years later, after the main characters, Jamal Turner, Ruby Martinez, Monse Finnie, and Cesar Diaz, have drifted away from each other. Watch how they manage to find a way to come back together when things from their past are brought up again with Cuchillos and have to work together more now than ever before during those past two years of no communication. Especially, when a few characters have unfortunately died. The characters end up in a low place whether they realize it or not in the beginning, and throughout the middle of the show, especially as teenagers and leaving one of them basically alone due to another’s death. Being a teenager is hard, especially when adults don’t always understand, fortunately, the co-creator of On My Block understands and actually tries to connect to it and isn’t afraid to embrace it.

“I was at a sort of dark place in my life, and I really wanted to get back to this teen world that speaks to me,” – Lauren Iungerich, co-creator of On My Block, “Catch Up With The ‘On My Block’ Crew In First Look At The Final Season”. Teenagers enjoy the show because they can actually relate to it in many different ways depending on the audience and the amount of diversity in the show. The show On My Block gives more perspective on things. For example, Hispanic culture. In the show, there was a quinceanera for Olivia that took an unfortunate twist in season 1, a coming of age party for girls that are becoming 15 years old, people speaking mostly Spanish, it shows some of their traditions, what religion they believe in, and other aspects of the Hispanic culture. The show makes other large issues relateable to teeangers like their financial status, their struggles, romances, families, gangs. The series doesn’t show the typical high school experience usually shown on television where the popular white kids with a bunch of money become homecoming king and queen and other cliches. Everyone has their own different experiences and it’s more realistic so the show comforts teenagers, letting them know that they’re not alone.

“It’s where I think my strength lies, this young voice. I was just thinking about how the majority of inspirational and fun YA shows are all told through a white prism, and I just wanted to see a show where the heroes weren’t white.” – Lauren Iungerich, co-creator on On My Block, “Catch Up With The ‘On My Block’ Crew In First Look At The Final Season”.
