The NAMI Club Invites Students to the 5K Walk

The 5k Walk on Saturday will be hosted by the NAMI Club on May 22nd, 2021, at 9:00 AM. Students will be asked to arrive at the Marston House area at Balboa Park by 8:30 for attendance. Permission slips for this event will be distributed at the Book Mobile. Attendees will be asked to wear masks at all times and to follow social distancing guidelines.

The NAMI Club 5k Walk, according to Ms. Torre, was to promote health and well-being through exercise. “While we’re walking we are going to wear lime green (which represents mental health awareness month) and hold signs so other people around us will know what cause we are raising awareness for.”

Ms. Torre wishes that through this walk, people will become more aware of COVID and that students will continue to bring awareness to promote different wellness events throughout the school year.

“I felt that continuing NAMI during remote learning was important because COVID had impacted mental health for many people in such a big way.” Ms. Torre said. “I hope we continue to promote fun activities and events that we can do in person and perhaps continue some online aspects as well. We will continue meeting during lunch to discuss important mental health aspects.”
