The Mid-City Open Space, located in the middle of Swan Canyon in City Heights, is a nice hiking and biking trail. With over one and a half miles of open space and several paths, the Mid-City Open Space never disappoints.
The Mid-City Open Space is open twenty-four hours a day, and is easily accessible for handicapped people, strollers, and bikes. All of the dirt paths are well maintained and have guardrails in the really steep areas to prevent people from falling. The trail is also surrounded by different plants such as daisies, prickly pears, palm trees, and has a diverse ecosystem ranging from lizards, bunnies, bees, ladybugs, grasshoppers, and small birds.
Riding a bike through this trail is a pleasant experience that I cannot recommend enough. The many twists and turns offer a thrilling experience, alongside the many little jumps makes it an excellent bike trail for any level of experienced biker. Some aspects of this trail such as the little bridge are wide enough to comfortably fit two bikes at a time, further allowing hikers and bikers to use the space at the same time. Additionally, the trail contains many different resting spots throughout such as the swing area and bench area, all covered with a vast amount of shade protecting people from the sun.
Riding this trail on a bike in the rain was a super unique experience. All the water drained into a small channel besides the trail giving me good amounts of traction. Additionally, the cooler temperatures increases performance by preventing overheating. The Open Space averages three to four people on the weekends, with hardly any people during weekdays. As a result, there is no worrying about accidentally crashing into anyone, making a carefree riding experience.
The Mid-City Open Space is a good trail for any biker or hiker looking for fun activities to do in the outdoors. With countless things to do here, the Mid-City Open Space will keep everyone entertained.
