Now that we have reached April, the eighth graders at the Preuss School UCSD have officially started to prepare for their transition into high school. With just a few more months left of middle school, the coming of a new era in their education has arrived.
“I’m kinda over middle school,” Mateo Herrera Delgado (29’) states. He continues,“ It’s been okay but I feel ready for something more new. I feel like I have been here forever.”
Bryan Huerta Nieto (29’) states, “I’m excited and nervous. High school looks like a lot and there is a lot I don’t know yet. I don’t want to get lost in work or feel behind in it.”
A third student Ethan Castillo (29’) has a different point of view: “I feel excited because it’s a year closer to college. It also makes me a bit worried because of how long the homework already is in 8th grade.”
With the end of their middle school years, both of these students are thinking about harder classes, new teachers, and more responsibilities. Additionally, some students are also already talking about the electives they chose for next year, what sports they want to try out, or how it’s going to feel like being a freshman. Others are just thinking about getting 8th grade out of the way.
“It all just went by too fast,” Mateo Herrera Delgado (29’) said, “It doesn’t feel like we have been here for three years.”
Bryan Huerta Nieto (29’) agrees: “Yeah it is interesting how fast it went by. The days felt slow, but the year went by fast, and it’s a lot of responsibility, but either way we’re going to have to deal with it.”
Currently the feeling is in between relaxed and a little uncertain for the future. High school is soon to come but 8th grade is not over yet; students still have to present their big and final 8th grade exhibition, which is a group of projects they worked on throughout their final year of 8th grade. This exhibition not only highlights a major part of what they learned throughout the year but it also makes a large transition as they get ready to leave middle school behind. It’s a time to be proud and look back on what is to come in the future.
