The First Robotics Competition (FRC) tournament will be held at the LionTree arena, located on the UCSD campus, from Thursday March 20th to Sunday March 23rd. Admission is free of charge. To get close up, goggles are required for safety. If Preuss’s Robotics team wins their tournament, they will advance to the finals.
Mr. Hwong is the advisor of the Robotics club. They meet every day at the Fab Lab after school from 4 pm-5 pm. As of now, they are currently working on adding finishing touches to the robot.
“We are doing some last minute practice and when we finish we will move the robot over to the stadium on the UCSD campus,” stated Mr. Hwong.
Robotics has always been the biggest club on campus and has the most participative students. However, after COVID hit, Robotics club experienced fewer attendees and noticed less of a club culture on campus due to lack of students participation in then FRC. Still, this club continues to offer many opportunities for those interested in the science field.
“We worked together with professionals in the field and they helped us build a robot. We needed to build a robotic arm that can hit the tube and a pipe onto another platform and with help of the professionals, we were able to accomplish this,” reports Jinan Wang (‘28)
Robotics offers many positions in the club besides engineering and science that have attracted more people to the club.
“We have multiple committees so if you’re not into tech or coding, there’s an outreach program that plans events and a finance committee that works in getting us donors, so there’s many aspects to the club besides building a robot,” affirmed Robotics president, Sabrina Haji (‘25).
