On Saturday, March 8, 2025, The Preuss School, in alliance with La Jolla Country Day, held the sixth annual T&T Conference. This year the conference took place at Preuss from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM. Fourteen schools, including Gompers Preparatory Academy, Patrick Henry, High Tech High NC, Point Loma High, Canyon Crest Academy, West View High, The Preuss School and La Jolla Country Day attended this year’s MUN T&T Conference.
This year, about 250 delegates participated in the conference. Ten of those delegates were Preuss students: Hastie Abubakr (‘26), Oliviya (Mac) Ellison-Copton (‘27), Rayann Farah (‘28), Julian Gomez (‘28), Reham Haji (‘28), Arsama Kibrom (‘28), Sofia Tesfamarim (‘28), Afi Torgby (‘25), Andrew Vazquez (‘28), and Jianan Wang (‘28).
“We have been planning this conference since the beginning of the school year, in some aspects since the summer. The delegates began preparing for the conference around 1-2 months prior,” stated Kamila Ramirez (‘25), MUN club president.
Before the delegates got settled in their designated classrooms, all the delegates and chairs gathered in the Walton Center for an opening ceremony. Ms. Boquiern, the MUN advisor, introduced the students to the campus and the conference.
Ramirez (‘25) said, “For our opening ceremony, we were able to have the Honorable Judge Randa Trapp come to Preuss and give a speech about the importance of diplomacy, centering on International Women’s Day.”
Former San Diego Superior Judge Randa Trapp retired in 2021 after serving eighteen years as judge. Prior to her appointment to the San Diego Superior Court, she was a veteran of the United States Navy. Trapp also practiced Law for twenty years as a prosecutor, civil litigator, in-house counsel, and finally an Assistant Corporate Secretary.
After the opening ceremony, the committee chairs and delegates guided participants to their designated classrooms. During these sessions, the chair and the delegates discussed their issue or acted out as their important figure. All of the chairs of every committee either attend The Preuss School or La Jolla Country Day.
Lunch took place from 12:30 to 1:30 PM. While the participants ate their catered Chipotle, they were entertained with performances by Preuss’ very own group “The 07’s”, APIA, also known as Asian Pacific Islander Association, and La Gloria Latina. La Gloria Latina set up a fundraiser sale for the club selling drinks, chips, and cookies.
“The lunch performances were good but they needed to get people’s attention before performing because some people didn’t know what was going on but the lunch was great,” said Afi Torgby (‘25), a delegate who participated in the conference.
After lunch ended, delegates and chairs were expected to be back in their designated classrooms to resume the session. The whole conference was over by 4:00 P.M.
T&T was a very important conference for not only Preuss but also La Jolla Country Day. During the conference volunteers were able to come and help out, ensuring the conference runs smoothly as possible. Volunteers helped with check in, running errands, setting up and passing out lunch to the delegates.
“I would like to thank all the staff and volunteers who helped coordinate the conference on Saturday. It could not have been possible without all the help and support we received from the Preuss community,” Ramirez (‘25) shared.
