The United States is currently undergoing severe changes under 47th President, Donald J. Trump. It’s crucial that students are aware of these changes and events that President Trump is in the process of making a reality in our country. Preuss needs to make sure scholars are better educated on current political events and changes occuring in the United States.
Since President Trump was elected and sworn into office on January 20th, 2025, he has already signed fifty executive orders to remake the government. Some of the orders President Trump has signed over the last month include plans to end birthright citizenship, reshaping the military, and restrict the rights of transgender people by not allowing trangender athletes to participate in female sports. Trump is also in the process of ending gender transitions for people under the age of nineteen.
President Trump has also begun implementing orders to the U.S. Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) to start raids in the United States. On Sunday, February 16th, a report from NBC News stated that 1,200 arrests happened that day but only 613 (or about 52%) of those arrests were considered to be “criminal arrests.” Families are living under the fear of being deported, as raids continue to take place. Raids are reported to have been spotted all throughout San Diego in Linda Vista, El Cajon City, City Heights, and National City areas. If a Preuss student ever has an encounter with an ICE agent, it is for their own benefit and safety that they know how to react. Students can also pass on the information they are taught to help other students, or their families.
It is crucial that students understand what is happening in our country and to understand what we are living under because of how these changes and orders can affect us, not only as students but also as people. Students must know how this will affect them now, but also in the future.
Preuss teachers should teach more lessons on current events. Information could be posted by teachers through Google Classroom about the changes being made in the country along with current political events.
Preuss scholars need to know how to distinguish accurate facts from biased opinions. Today, people on social media can publish practically anything they believe to be true, making it more and more important that students know how to find reliable information about current world events. Students should use reliable news sources such as Newsela and Scholastic News. Scholars should also fact check the information they find, when finding any sort of information, they need to find more than one source to make sure the information is accurate.
It is crucial Preuss makes sure students are kept up to date and educated on important information for their own safety and to understand what could be happening in the United States.
