McDonald’s , Chick Fil A, and Dairy Queen have released new limited-time items to their menus. The menu items that seem most appealing are the Crunchin Cookie dipped cone from Dairy Queen, the Shamrock McFlurry from McDonald’s and the Key lime Lemonade from Chick Fil A. These three items have each caught my attention due to their unique set of flavors, but are they worth all of the hype surrounding them?
Dairy Queen is known for their blizzards that can be flipped upside down without falling, but what about the ice cream cones? Dairy Queen’s ice cream cones don’t seem to be advertised often as much as the blizzards but are for sure underrated. The Crunchin Cookie dipped cone at Dairy Queen offers a creamy delicious ice cream cone coated with a blue chocolate dip with cookie crumbles on top. At first glance, it seems to resemble the colorways of Cookie Monster. In fact, many ice cream spots have come out with Cookie Monster themed ice creams, which is where Dairy Queen got their inspiration. Its thick vanilla soft serve pairs very well with the cookie crunch’s outer shell, especially on a hot sunny day. The blend of vanilla with cookie crumbs and chocolate ensures a crunch with every bite.
In terms of quality Dairy Queen delivers, the thick vanilla soft serve tastes thick and creamy and could even be eaten by itself. When dipped in the cookie crunch chocolate, it tastes even better since the cookie crumble resembles crushed Oreos. The cone seems to hold up very well without crumbling until the very last bite. At an affordable price starting at $3.19, the Crunch Cookie Dipped Cone comes in three sizes. I ordered the medium size and it was very big; it was almost too much to eat alone. Although it’s not a complete game changer in ice cream, if a local Dairy Queen is nearby, stop and give it a try.
McDonalds, on the other hand, has lots of popular dessert items, such as the apple pie, McFrappe, shakes, cookies, but today I’ll be reviewing the Shamrock McFlurry. The Shamrock McFlurry was released to celebrate Saint Patrick’s day alongside the Shamrock Shake. The shake didn’t seem appetizing, so I chose to review the McFlurry. At first glance it looks like any old McFlurry but instead green. It’s very aesthetic due to the green soft serve with the cookie crumbs on top. The ingredients are simple: vanilla soft serve, Oreo crumbs, and shamrock syrup. Shamrock syrup consists of a mint flavored base which when blended with the soft serve almost makes it taste colder due to the mint after effect.
When it comes down to the quality, it’s like any other McFlurry with a slight twist due to the Shamrock syrup. The Oreo chunks are generously distributed and crushed throughout the McFlurry since it’s blended. Every spoonful contains mint flavored soft serve with a few crumbs of crushed Oreo. It’s refreshing and can be enjoyed at any time of the day due to its versatile flavor combo. $5.49 is quite expensive, considering the small amount served in the “normal” size. McDonalds offers two 2 sizes, the mini and regular size. It’s not a very filling menu item since its mini size contains 230 calories and the normal contains 460 calories. Trying the Shamrock McFlurry is a great way to stay festive around Saint Patrick’s day. However, while it’s a great festive promotional item, it’s not anything special since it’s so close to the Oreo McFlurry. Be sure to give it a try if you’re around a nearby McDonalds, but other than that it’s definitely not worth going out of your way to purchase it.
Finally, The Key Lime Lemonade at Chick Fil A is a great refreshing drink. The natural flavoring makes it ten times more enjoyable, since other places often use artificial flavors for their beverages. A proper lemonade can be made with artificial sweeteners since it doesn’t bring out its true flavors. Chick Fil A seems to do the job. The sweet tangy and sour pulp from the key limes makes the lemonade delicious.
The Key Lime Lemonade is served well by their thick but small shaped ice cubes that don’t come in contact with the straw but keeps the drink chill. I found the quality to be exceptional since the pulp of the key lime tastes very good when served cold. At a slighter price difference of around a dollar or two, it’s better than other lemonades. It’s definitely worth it considering other lemonades aren’t made with quality ingredients and contain artificial flavorings. This lemonade is best during hot weather making it a slight disadvantage since people don’t want to drink cold beverages while the weather is cold. It’s for sure not worth making a trip to Chick Fil A just to give a try but if already heading there be sure to give it a try.
Each of these limited time items have their unique twist so they cannot all be compared. It all depends on individual preferences on sweets since not everyone has the same taste buds. The Crunchin Cookie dipped cone is a solid choice for Oreos lovers who also enjoy vanilla soft serve. The Shamrock Mcflurry is for those who enjoy minty sweets and even mint Oreos, since it contains Oreo cookie crumbles with a mint based syrup. The Key Lime lemonade is a refreshing beverage with key lime pulp and no artificial flavors.
These menu items are definitely advertised well since they make them all look mouthwatering. I wouldn’t say they taste mouth watering but definitely tasty and worth a try.
