At Preuss, it is important to keep our campus clean and professional. However, it is difficult to maintain a professional setting if there is trash all over our school. Students leave their trash behind after lunch, making Preuss staff responsible for cleaning up the mess. Usually, trash is mostly left at the lunch tables, in the dome, and in between the bushes located in the middle of the C and D buildings. Making sure that we pick up our trash after we’re done with lunch is crucial in order to have our school campus appear cleaner and overall to have more respect towards our staff.
Maintaining a professional setting is very important here at Preuss; however, by leaving out trash around the school and on the field, we are no longer keeping that professional setting and instead, making it so that our campus looks dirty. Not only does that make Preuss look bad, it is also bad for the environment since trash could eventually the wind could cause plastic wrappers to go out onto the street, which then can go inside the storm drains, which lead to the ocean.
Littering happens all throughout the campus, even on the field, which makes up a big part of our campus. Leaving trash out on the field can be harmful, especially since it can affect the soil leading to the grass being harmed or damaged. Additionally, since the trees were cut down recently, there are no tall enough structures blocking the view from the field, where trash can easily be spotted by people who come to visit Preuss. If someone came to visit Preuss and they saw trash scattered all around the school, they would most likely think poorly about the school and this can ruin our reputation.
Not only does littering make us look bad, it is also disrespectful to those who end up picking it up. A lot of the time, the janitors end up cleaning after us. This is very disrespectful as it gives off the impression that we don’t care about or respect them despite their importance to keeping our campus running. Additionally, sometimes students who didn’t make the mess end up picking up the trash. Could you imagine if someone made you pick up the mess that they made?
Littering misrepresents Preuss as a community and does not accurately reflect the Preuss way of “kindness, respect, and excellence.” First of all, we are not showing kindness if we are constantly making the janitors pick up after us. Second of all, we are not being respectful at all by littering since we are making our school look bad and we are disrespecting the environment and the campus. Lastly, we do not show excellence if we are not keeping our campus looking at its very best, therefore keeping our campus litter free is important.
There are trash cans located all around campus, yet a lot of the time, people just don’t want to take a few steps to go and throw away their trash. If everyone were to throw away their trash at the designated trash cans, littering would not even be a problem.
By littering on our campus, the school’s reputation can be ruined and it disrespects the people who end up cleaning after us, so it is very important to keep our campus clean. Pick up after yourself!
