On December 17th, ASB is hosting Homecoming. The theme this year is AVATAR: The Last Airbender and will take place from 3:30pm – 8:00pm in the UCSD Triton Soccer Stadium. Each grade will have a designated dress code with Freshman wearing blue, Sophomores wearing green, Juniors wearing red, and Seniors wearing orange.
Many students are excited to be attending this year’s Homecoming since this is the first time that our soccer varsity teams are participating during Homecoming in a long time. Homecoming games are typically located in the Rimac Arena for Basketball games consisting of both boys and girls.
“I am excited to go Homecoming to support the Pruess Soccer Teams. I think the boys team will do well this year and will win, but as for the girls team, I’m not sure since I haven’t seen them play, but hopefully we can get two wins this year,” stated Kenny White (‘27).
At Homecoming in past years the school had usually provided sandwiches but this year they are providing three tacos. For students who RSVP’d, they will have many options and if you can’t eat tacos they offer other options as well.
“The tacos will have veggie options, and if you’re vegan, they’ll also have some options for you,” stated Debora Hernandez (‘27) Sophomore Class President.
Additionally, the Cheer Team is performing on the day of Homecoming. They will be cheering on both of our Varsity Soccer teams this year.
“We have been preparing for weeks, dedicating time and hard work into the dances we have prepared to perform that day,” stated Karina Almazan (‘27) Cheerleader.
While this may be a great opportunity for soccer teams this year, many girls varsity players have expressed their mixed feelings about playing in front of our school for many reasons.
“I feel good about the game and do think it’s gonna be a win for sure, hopefully, I think so,” stated Emma Becerra (‘28)
Leading up to this point, the girls Varsity Soccer Team has been preparing for their big moment by having longer sessions with a variety of exercises and warmups.
“This week we will be busy with preparing for the Homecoming game by doing drills like shooting drills, practicing touches, and probably scrimmaging,” stated Kirsten Rodriguez (‘25)
On the other hand, the boys varsity soccer team this year feels the complete opposite due to more years of experience and practice.
“I feel confident in our game this year against Coastal Academy, in Oceanside. I feel well prepared and think we will win,” stated Alex Munoz (‘27) Varsity Boys Soccer Player.
ASB is practically ready for this big day and are still adding finishing touches to what they are working on for Homecoming.
“This week we are very busy with organizing and planning things but I’m pretty sure Homecoming will come out great this year,” stated Debora Hernanadez (‘27) Sophomore Class President.
