AP Psychology students have recently become parents! AP Psychology teacher Mrs. Fox calls it the Eggsperiment Development Project.
This project requires each student to to take care of a raw egg for a week. Part of taking care of this egg includes bringing them to class every day, even on A-days, to ensure that students are responsible parents every day, not just on class days. As a part of their first day of parenting, the eggs must be named, given a gender, and designed to appear human-like.
The purpose of this project is for AP psychology students to identify and remember the developmental stages of life. AP Psychology students must develop a photo album of their eggs going through different stages of life, as if they were their real life baby. Students also learn about different parenting styles and are required to pick between authorian , authoritative, and permissive parenting styles. Some photos may include the eggs playing a sport, visiting a place, sleeping, and even selfies.
“This is the first year Mrs. Fox is doing this experiment, and I think she should continue doing it because it’s a fun way to learn the developmental stages,” states Andy Phan (25’)
Seniors are seen around campus carrying eggs and some even dropping eggs. There have already been three students who have dropped their eggs and had to clean them up and replace them with a new egg. Students’ grades are not affected by dropping their eggs. However, forgetting their egg at home does impact students’ grades, as attendance for the eggs is required.
“This experiment makes us responsible students because we have to be careful carrying our eggs around or else we’ll have an egg-accident,” states Eh Soe Tha (25’)
“My eggs name is Napoleon, named after Napoleon Dynamite,” adds on Eh Soe Tha (25’)
The more human-like the eggs are, the more credit students receive on this project. Mrs. Fox will be hosting Egg Prom and Egg Graduation on Friday the 20th of December. Psychology students are currently dress and suit shopping for their eggs special day.
