I can say with certainty that if you have ever done any type of schoolwork you have used a pencil. Whether it was a mechanical pencil or a wooden pencil, we can all agree that out of these two, mechanical pencils are the better option. Mechanical pencils are far superior than wooden pencils for a multitude of reasons that tie back to their design and consistency when writing. 

When comparing mechanical pencils to wooden pencils, there are clear disadvantages to using wooden pencils. Constant sharpening along with an inconsistent line width when writing make them an unreliable tool to use. Additionally, after being used for a long time, wooden pencils often become too short, to the point where they are no longer comfortable to use and have to be replaced. Choosing a mechanical pencil is a much better option compared to that of a wooden pencil.

One of the reasons why mechanical pencils are so much better than wooden pencils is their consistency. Mechanical pencils dispense a consistent amount of lead every time while keeping the width of your lines the same no matter how much you write. On the other hand, the line width for wooden pencils does not stay the same every time you write which makes them less consistent to use when making clean lines. 

Another reason why mechanical pencils are better than wooden pencils is because of their precision.  This is especially helpful when drawing, where having that high of precision can help create details that would otherwise not be achievable with a wooden pencil. In my own experience, sketching and drawing is so much more clean allowing me to create these intricate artworks. 

Additionally, mechanical pencils have the advantage of never needing to be sharpened. This removes the mess of pencil shavings that is often associated with sharpening. In addition, sharpening a wooden pencil often causes the pencil to break, making it a more time consuming task to complete. These advantages make mechanical pencils cleaner and more efficient when more lead is necessary. 

Mechanical pencils are far more than just superior to any wooden pencil. The consistency, practicality, and precision is something you don’t get with a wooden pencil. With prices ranging from four dollars to eight dollars, they make for the perfect gift this holiday that anyone would find useful.
