For the class of 2028’s first college visit, they headed to California State University, San Marcos (CSUSM) on December 5, 2024. A lot of students were excited to finally be able to explore universities other than UCSD.
The students arrived at the college by 10:25 am and by 10:45, their tour had started. The guide first talked about the majors, halls, and their diverse cultural backgrounds and centers that they have on campus, such as the Black Student Center.
“Other schools I’ve been to didn’t have a lot of differentiated cultural backgrounds and the diversity of the school made me feel like I was at home and not out of place,” expressed Reem Faqi (‘28).
The tour guide also went through the Science and Behavioral Sciences halls to give the students a glimpse of what classes look like at CSUSM.
There are four floors in the library, which has a lab for students studying Biology and scientific related fields.
“The science halls were very complex and the library was peaceful and clean, which allows the students to have a quiet environment and a good place to study and or work,” affirmed Arlette Platas (‘28).
The four advisories were all split up into their own group and each went off with their own tour guides, exploring the campus and what it has to offer. Mr. Meka’s and Ms. Hannah’s advisory groups were the first two to be done with their tour so both classes headed over to the University Student Union, where all the restaurants and cafes are.
“It’s important to go on these college visits because you’re able to envision yourself at college and have a mental barrier about what university truly means. It’s also crucial to learn about the resources you need to attend college such as financial aid, food, and housing,” pledged Ms. Hannah.
