The JV boys soccer team has a new addition to the team. Angel Lugo and Diego Preciado, class of 2024 graduates, are now back to coach the JV boys soccer team.
According to Preciado (24’), taking the job was not planned; he and Lugo were offered the position by the Varsity Boys Soccer Coach Jiovanni Monroy. Both Preciado and Lugo played for the Preuss Varsity soccer team. Lugo was one of the leading scorers and both led the team towards a CIF championship. They see coaching as a great opportunity. Jiovanni Monroy chose Angel and Diego due to their discipline and skills presented on the varsity soccer team.
“I was only planning on coaching for a year, but if it goes well, I plan on staying for a year or two,” comments Preciado (24’). “Me and Angel are just testing out coaching styles to figure out which works best for this team.”
JV teams do not have a long season as they are under development and not division based. This year the JV boys team only have seven games scheduled for the season which means that they have to be well prepared.
“My plan for this team is to at least win three out of the five games and help the athletes be better players and a better team overall and build a family for them,” states Lugo (24’).
Preciado and Lugo manage to balance work, school, and now the addition of a coaching position. They are always present during the JV block, after school practices, and game days. They even take the time to go to some Varsity practices and games to study new coaching skills that can be applied to their JV team.
“At the moment the team is looking better than last year. With the discipline and communication, the team is together,”states Preciado (24’).
Their first game will take place on December 14, 2024.
