The uniform dress code for high school students consists of a white or light blue collared polo or button up with either gray or khaki colored bottoms. The middle school dress code consists of wearing a dark blue or maroon polo with khaki or navy colored bottoms. Yet, neither high school or middle school students are allowed to wear solid black pants to school.
It isn’t a secret that most students’ aren’t content with the current dress code. Previously, the school uniform dress code only allowed students to wear a burgundy or navy blue polo shirt with the school logo and only khaki colored pants. It wasn’t until 2023 that this was changed and middle school students were given the option to wear navy blue pants and high school’s uniform changed to the light blue or white polo and gray or khaki pants. Preuss added darker colored pants to the dress code in the case that a female student experienced an accident while on their menstruation cycle. I strongly believe that Preuss should add the option for high school students to wear black pants to school as part of the student uniform.
Adding black pants to the student dress code for high school students is a more convenient option to students as it will be easier to buy in stores. Black pants are commonly sold at every clothing store and are more common to be found than khaki or gray pants. If Preuss students were allowed to wear solid black pants to school as part of their uniform it would make the uniform look a lot more simple and put together.
The Preuss School has a goal of having their students look professional when it comes to their dress code, so wearing black pants is a great alternative that would keep a professional and qualified look. It’s common for business people to wear solid black pants, so adding black pants for students to wear with their uniform Preuss polo would look extremely professional but could also be a way for students to style their uniform with their own flair and part of their own sense of fashion as a way for students to feel more comfortable at school.
Wearing black pants is also just an option that some students will feel more comfortable with. For example, female students might feel more comfortable wearing darker pants when on their menstruation cycle days and could experience having an accident. Although gray pants have been added, adding black pants would be better to hide menstruation accidents because gray pants are easily stained and stains are still more noticeable on gray pants than black pants. Adding black pants to the high school uniform would encourage more students to come to school in uniform appropriate clothes.
