This month the seniors are filling in their California State University applications. Many of this year’s seniors have mixed feelings about taking this big step that could determine their future. Some of them feel confident while others, not so much.
Seniors have been getting ready for this moment since junior year. As part of the process, seniors apply for fee waivers that pay for four CSU applications, but some do not get accepted. When this happens,Preuss pays for two CSU applications, and if they want to apply for more than they have to pay out of their own pockets.
“I feel nervous but since junior year I started to get tips and prepare. It’s honestly not that hard when you actually end up doing it,” stated Darian Juarez (‘24).
Some seniors this year aren’t nervous at all about CSU applications. They feel confident from all the support they have received from the Preuss School since their 6th grade year. The mission at Preuss is to prepare their students for secondary academic success and a lifetime of learning and leadership.
“I’m not nervous;I think it’s less stressful than it seems,” stated Kirtsten Rodriguez (‘24).
The long and tough process of these applications have stressed out students, due to the amount of information required it caused some students to panic.
“While I was filling out the application leading up to submission I did feel pressured, throughout the process a lot of information gathering is required which made me feel as if a of the things I was doing or the way I was doing the application was wrong,” Chantal Velasquez Viveros (‘24).
Future seniors who need advice for applications can go to Ms. Bandy who’s a college advisor at the Preuss School. They can also ask other seniors who have submitted applications.
“Advice I would give to future seniors applying to CSU’s is to gather their information needed on time, in between the whole process make sure to also prioritize yourself and your mental health, don’t overthink, and just follow your interests and goals,” states Amy Bustos Garcia (‘24).
