Preuss has hired Bianca Brown as the new girls varsity basketball coach. She is a P.E. teacher, substitute teacher, and now the girls new varsity basketball coach.
Brown substitutes for Ms. Williston’s advisory class and her 6th grade P.E. so she has a lot on her plate now with the addition of her new coaching position. However, she tries to stay flexible because at any moment the basketball season and classes can overlap.
“I try to utilize my network of teachers If I need help, and my captains and managers also help to make sure practice runs efficiently,” states Ms. Brown.
The girls basketball team is already adapting to the coaching transition.
“The way coach Brown is coaching us right now, she makes sure everyone has their own individualized skill set and picks out their strengths and weaknesses,” states Selame Mesay (‘27).
The head boys Varsity basketball coach, Coach R, who has coached for four years at Preuss, is glad to help Coach Brown settle into her new position.
“One thing that stands out about her coaching style is her emphasis on teamwork and communication. She creates an encouraging atmosphere that motivates the players to collaborate and improve together.”
As a former basketball player herself, Ms. Brown has brought her strategies and goals for the team.
“I try to figure out what their strengths are and grow on that while also finding out what their weaknesses are to help them be better well rounded athletes,” expresses Ms. Brown.
Last season the girls ended their season 10-18 overall. Through focusing on improving each athlete individually, Coach Brown believes this will help the girls team win more games.
“My goal is, I want every single player to feel like they were better off at the end of the semester then they were at the beginning.”
