Last week, seniors at the Preuss School UCSD delivered their Senior Exhibition speeches in front of two to four panelists. This will bring them one step closer to their long awaited graduation.
At Preuss, one of the multiple requirements needed to graduate is to complete the senior exhibition presentation. Senior exhibition is a presentation in which they present about their research, internship and service learning projects. These projects come as a result of the hard work seniors have put in at Preuss.
“I’m proud of the slides that I made,” Anthony Mendias (‘24) remarks. “It reflects all the work that I have done throughout my time at Preuss.”
Senior exhibition is an opportunity for seniors to showcase the skills and knowledge they learned during their senior wheel. Research was important to learn because these skills will help when they have to write a research paper in college. Onewould normally have to learn this on their own, but because of Preuss they were able to get practice on how to write research papers. For internship, it allowed seniors to gain experience working with professional organizations. Finally, service learning gave students the chance to give back to The Preuss School UCSD, strengthening their collaboration and leadership skills as they worked in groups to combat an issue .
“I found it kind of weird that we had to do this to graduate because at my old school we didn’t have to do anything like this to graduate,” said Nathan Cherinet (‘24), “but I guess they do it so we’re prepared better for college.”
The exhibition for many was terrifying, while many found it helpful in practicing useful skills for the future such as public speaking and research.
“This actually helped me a lot with public speaking,” Vivian To (‘24) claimed. “It’s nice to have this opportunity to practice because I usually get nervous presenting, so it will definitely help with college when I’ll have to present often.”
Many students, though, were still very nervous after presenting their exhibition because it determined whether they were going to graduate or not, and most scores took longer than expected to be updated
“Before checking my score, I was nervous to know if I was gonna pass, but I ended up getting an average score of 95,” said Blake De La Torre (‘24).
Ultimately, if a senior has not passed the first time around their exhibition, they can have another chance presenting their senior exhibition.
Hopefully with this behind them, seniors will be able to enjoy their last week of school and their end of year events.
