On Thursday, May 30th, Mrs. Alcantar held the second annual multicultural senior celebration in the Walton Center. This celebration honors seniors who have demonstrated their involvement with the club throughout the years of being members. Other clubs that were present in this celebration included Asian Pacific Islander Association (APIA) and Black Student Union (BSU). Speakers such as Mrs. Cobbs, Mrs. Majors, and Ms. Bandy shared some words of enthusiasm at the event.
After having a moment of dedicating the seniors outstanding effort throughout the years, Mrs. Alcantar began the ceremony and thanked all the seniors for their dedication and time they put into planning events, helping out, and the ideas they brought to the table.
“It is an honor to be doing this celebration once again to honor the hardships of seniors who truly stand out with their commitment to their club by spreading cultures,” said Mrs. Alcantar, the supervisor of the multicultural club.
Each club and their advisors then awarded their seniors with graduation sashes. Multicultural awarded Arely Gomez (‘24), Adilenne Flores (‘24), Jasmine Mendez (‘24), Ashley Lopez (‘24), and a few others. APIA club awarded Vivian To (‘24), Vy Ho (‘24), Vivian Nguyen (‘24), Triet Pham (‘24), Lia Le (‘24), Nicole Nguyen (‘24), and Vy Tha (‘24). Lastly, BSU awarded a few seniors as well: Yaret Bolaños (‘24), Maryamawet Debele (‘24), Devina Lindsey (‘24), and Aklesia Mekuria (‘24). Their graduation sash is based on color patterns that represent their club. After being gifted their sashes, the program continued with a few words of encouragement and advice.
“We are honoring our seniors today for putting in their hours and time into planning this event..and these are skills you could take into college and share your culture in another campus,” said Ms. Bandy in her speech dedicated towards the seniors.
After a wonderful meal, staff members such as Ms.Bandy and Mrs. Cobbs shared a few words of inspiration that the students can carry throughout their next four years of college. Many emphasized what Ms. Bandy mentioned how culture is very important in college and to not be afraid to demonstrate their roots.
Although seniors will not be able to wear their gifted sashes during graduation, they will still be able to wear them after graduation and can take pictures with them. Overall, they can view them as a symbol for their hard work and dedication throughout their years at Preuss.
