Essential items that may help students adjust to college life.

At The Preuss School UC San Diego, Seniors have applied to four-year universities and recently have been receiving acceptances from California State University’s (CSU), University of California’s (UC), and private universities. As the end of the school year approaches, students will bring essentials such as electronic devices, clothes, or personal care products to their college dorms, but will undeniably forget others. Here is a list of the top five items students should not forget to bring into their college dorms.

  1. Decorative Touches

Students should not forget to bring personal items such as posters, photos, LED lights, and any other items to  personalize their dorms. It is important for creating a comfortable living environment as students enter a new space where they can express their creativity through decorating. These meaningful items can serve as reminders of home, family, loving memories, and will help students to not feel so alone. Not only will students have personality and style demonstrated through their dorms, but will have a comfortable living environment which will help students achieve academic success and happiness as they start their college journey. I personally will bring photos of my family which serves as my motivation, and posters of soccer players I’ve idolized through my life.

     2. Organizational Tools

Since students will no longer have access to key resources such as Google Classroom nor teacher agendas to remind them of their academic responsibilities, organizational tools like calendars, planners, or whiteboards should not be forgotten as they serve as a key support system in helping college students manage their time effectively. This can help students stay on top of their academic responsibilities, and these items may have helped the students help their academic success in high school.  They can create beneficial time management by keeping track of assignments, sports, work, and other activities. Ultimately, these items will help students achieve their academic success during their college years and do not take much space in dorms. I plan to bring my passion planner which serves as an achievement and calendar day system and my whiteboard to mark important dates.

     3. Entertainment

Students should not forget to bring board games, video game consoles, and other entertainment activities to their college dorms because these items can help students relax and have a fun time with friends. As long as students are not bothering others or abusing these activities, these options are cost-effective and can make students feel more comfortable in their new living space. Entertainment activities like the ones listed can enhance the college experience as students begin their college education and can help create friendships through these activities.

These are essentials that I recommend seniors to not forget as they prepare to embark on their new academic journey. By remembering these items, it will help students adjust to a new living environment, achieve academic success, and enjoyment as they transition into college life. I plan to bring a Personal Computer (PC) which serves as my computer to complete homework and play video games with friends.
