Streaming Platforms Are Charging More Than Ever

Netflix+requires+a+subscription+before+allowing+its+users+to+access+its+services.

Netflix requires a subscription before allowing its users to access its services.

Subscriptions cost a lot of money. People want to be able to watch movies with their families and friends on movie night or sleepovers. Personally, I pay for Netflix but they don’t have all the popular movies that I may want to watch. I would have to look at other streaming platforms that I do not have as I’d have to pay for. If I decide to pay for them, the cost of all these platforms will start to pile up. These issues occur only with the starting plans but if an individual would like to remove ads, it will cost them even more.

Netflix’s starting plan is $6.99 a month with ads, their premium plan is $22.99 a month that has no ads. Disney+ starting plan is $7.99 a month and the premium is $13.99 a month with no ads. Hulu’s starting plan is $7.99 a month with ads. Finally Amazon Prime Video starts at $8.99 a month with ads. Once streaming platforms such as Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, and Disney + lower their prices for subscription plans, viewers will be able to enjoy watching shows and movies.

Amazon is going to start to charge an extra $2.99 a month to remove ads. Amazon Prime Video costs $8.99/month with ads. Ads for Amazon Prime were first added in the U.S., U.K., Germany, and Canada in the beginning of 2024. Later in the year, this is going to expand to France, Italy, Spain, Mexico, and Australia. Ads for any streaming platform are added because it creates more profit for the company. Nevertheless, by adding ads, individuals are less likely to pay for the platform causing their profit to decrease. Amazon is not the only company that is yearning to increase their profit as Disney+ and Hulu are planning to as well.

In early 2024 Disney+ added ads to their platform and to remove these ads, an individual would have to pay $13.99 as before it was $8.00/month with ads . To entice people to remove their ads they have a subscription that is $17.99 to watch movies and shows freely. Disney+ does this because they know how frustrated an individual can get when an ad pops up in the middle of their viewing party.

Many of these streaming services are taking advantage of consumers and adding subscriptions to take our money because they know these ads are irritating. When watching a movie or show I want to be able to enjoy it without any interruptions.  That is why it makes it easier for someone to pay extra because they want to be entertained, meaning an individual will be paying $10.99 a month for Amazon Prime Video to remove ads instead of just the regular $8.99.  It might not seem like it adds up in the end, but that’s an additional $30 a year.

Many of us invest in these platforms because we don’t want to watch ads in the middle of our show or movie, so we pay that additional money. These prices are unreasonable for those who can not afford it but still want to enjoy shows and movies.
