Top Three Songs from “But Here We Are” Album by Foo Fighters

90’s rock band “Foo Fighter” releases newest album.

The famous Foo Fighters rock band from the nineties has released their eleventh studio album But Here We Are. It released June 2, 2023 with ten new rock songs. The album follows the recent passing of previous Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins and lead singer Dave Grohl’s mother. Older fans of the band would greatly appreciate listening to this album because it has new songs that match the same rhythm and vibe of older popular albums from this band. I find this band compelling because Dave Grohl is the fifth and final drummer of the famous grunge band Nirvana. In this album my top three favorite  songs are “Rescued,”  “But Here We Are,” and “Hearing Voices.”

1. “Rescued”

This song is an emotional journey of rediscovering pain and loss while wanting to get over it. As a result, the song illustrates the grief the lead singer has surpassed by providing a backdrop of the emotions and thoughts the lead singer has gone through in its lyrics. When listening to the lyrics, “I’m just waiting to be rescued, bring me back to life” I can feel the emotional tension of getting over the grief that the song illustrates. I love that this song includes the use of electric guitar because it personally emphasizes the hope and longing to return to one’s original form before the obstacle one encounters whether in one’s personal life or relate to someone else’s point of view. I would highly recommend this song to someone struggling with the loss of someone dear to them because not only does it motivate you to make it through the pain but it could be a song you would highly relate to emotionally with your point of view.

2. “But Here We Are”

I feel that with this song, you can clearly see what the artist is trying to achieve with the album. The rock song sets the heavy mood of the album; going through the pain of loss although it extends to not only mourning loved ones but sharing the pain of mourning for the people one idolizes. In this album I’m able to relate to the artist’s pain and tie it back to how I once idolized a celebrity being mourned when he sings “Hey, lay your burden down..Arm in arm, arm in arm we are forever” I ranked this song secondary because it was shorter than the first ranked song and it didn’t meet the same rock tone as the first where the first ranked song went from aggressive to settled down.

3. “Hearing Voices”

This mesmerizing song introduces the significance of never finding the same person again, with heavy emotion and leaving behind the expired promises they had made to you. In the middle of this song I can finally feel the depth of how no one is alike and it makes you realize that once your closest family relative, friend, and loved one is gone there is no way to go back and spend time with them. Although you’re left reminiscing about the aspects they had, that you once loved. The reason I ranked this song third is because of how deep and saddening it was, even if that is the theme of the album I prefer to listen to something more relatable with a high lifting and aggressive tone.

With these three songs, Foo Fighters easily display their old sound and combine it with the newer songs they just released. Singer Dave Grohl goes back and forth using his old voice and adjusting it to the theme of the album. The tracks’ theme and Grohl’s voice display how the band doesn’t forget the sound they had when they first started and showcase the sorrow they’ve gone through.
