An annual music and arts festival that started in 1999 has been increasing in popularity each year. More and more celebrities have been attending the festival to perform but also to enjoy the entertainment. Food, drinks, and exciting performances can all be found in Indio, California, from April 15 to April 24 this year. The return of this event has brought excitement for fans who weren’t able to attend the event in 2021. With a few days into the festival, there have already been some surprising encounters.

One notable highlight of the first weekend of this festival is a special appearance from Shania Twain. Twain is known for being the best-selling female artist of country music in all of history. She surprised the audience with her appearance during Harry Styles’ performance and together, they sang Twain’s hit songs: “Man! I feel like a Woman!” and “You’re Still the One”. There is no doubt that Styles and Twain have an inspiring connection with each other. Their bond is touching and unforgettable.

“In the car, with my mother as a child, this lady taught me to sing,” Styles said, “To you, for the memories you gave me with my mother, I will be forever grateful.”

Another surprise from Coachella came from the band, Surf Curse performed while all wearing outfits from The Wizard of Oz. This band came together in 2013 in Reno, Nevada. Surf Curse’s most popular song “Freaks” came out in 2013 but was later re-released after going viral on TikTok in 2021. Nick Rattigan, singer and drummer of the band, wore a lion costume on stage and later sprung himself into the crowd saying, “the lion is coming into the den!”

Lastly, a favorite of the weekend was the reunion of Female K-pop band, 2NE1. The band of four females, were signed into YG Entertainment in 2009 and were the first wave of K-pop bands. They became the first K-pop girl group to take off into a world tour. They came on stage during 88rising’s performance of “Head in the Clouds” and it was their first time coming together again since 2015. They sang their hit song of 2011, “I am the Best” while the crowd roared from their appearance.

With only the first week of Coachella being so memorable and notable, participants and celebrities can not wait for the next following weekends. Hundreds of thousands of people purchase tickets to participate in this festival each year; and for good reason. From exciting performances to emotional ones, this festival of the arts evokes joy from left and right.
