On April 3, 2022 at 7 p.m, the Grammys were held in Paradise, Nevada. The Grammys are an award presented by the Recording Academy to recognize “outstanding achievement in the music industry” in the US. In case readers have missed it this year, here are some of the highlights of the Grammys with the celebrities and singers.

While “We Are” took home the prize for Album of the Year, Soul and The Queen’s Gambit shared the award for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media. Batiste also won two prizes in the American Roots category for his CD. The album’s song “Freedom” won the award for Best Music Video.
The CD is notable because it focuses on the difficulties of black people while also highlighting decades of black American music. All of Batiste’s awards are firsts in his career.

Silk Sonic, a trio founded by Bruno Mars and Anderson, has a song called “Leave the Door Open.” Paak took home the award for Record of the Year. Song of the Year and Best R&B Song were also given to it. Silk Sonic collaborated on the same number, Silk Sonic and Jazmine Sullivan’s “Pick Up Your Feelings” shared the award for Best R&B Performance.

Olivia Rodrigo took home the honors for Best Pop Solo Performance and Best New Artist. The 19 year old former Disney actress is now one of the most well-known music stars in the world, with nominations in all four major categories, as well as three others. The Grammy Awards 2022 were highlighted by Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga’s wins for Love for Sale in the categories of Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album and Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical. Their work was also nominated in the Album of the Year category. Bennett also set the Guinness World Record for the oldest individual to release a new album in 2021, when he was 95 years and 57 days old. He became the oldest person to be nominated in one of the Grammys’ “big four” categories as a result of his collaboration with Lady Gaga.

The Foo Fighters were scheduled to perform but had to cancel due to the untimely death of their drummer, Taylor Hawkins, at the age of 50. At the ceremony, the Recording Academy paid tribute to Hawkins. On Sunday afternoon, the band won three Grammys.

“The entire music community is still grieving the light we lost last week with Taylor Hawkins’ passing, we continue to send our love and extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.” the Recording Academy said in a statement Sunday from CBS News.

This year’s Grammys had a lot of good moments and little scandalous moments but it was really good. Hopefully these highlights have made readers want to see next year’s Grammys and see everything unfold and see the winners. Try rooting for someone to keep it more suspenseful whether that person wins or not.

My favorite part of the evening was the numerous performances, including those by Justin Bieber, BTS, Lady Gaga, and others, as well as the meaningful tributes. While Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy presented a taped statement at the Grammys, Billie Eilish wore a T-shirt remembering the late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, and John Legend sang a stirring rendition of “Free.” It was a really touching moment for everybody especially with some famous people using their fame to put it towards supporting something.
