Kanye West Changes Name
After Kim Kardashian and Kanye West divorced, West discovered new things about himself. While growing up, Kanye has been called multiple names but he officially decided that he prefers Ye, so as a result, on October 18, 2021, he legally changed it to Ye. He first announced it back in 2018 on Twitter saying that he was sick of being known as Kanye West and that he is Ye. On August 11th, 2021, Kanye West filed a request to change his whole name from Kanye Omari West to just Ye. Meaning, no last name or no middle name, just Ye.
As stated in the filing request, he would like to change his name for personal reasons. At the time, Kanye West once spoke about it in an interview. West believes that the name Ye holds a deeper spiritual meaning from the Bible and even named his album Donda.
“I believe ‘Ye’ is the most commonly used word in the Bible, and in the Bible, it means ‘you.’ So, I’m you, I’m us, it’s us. It went from Kanye, which means the only one, to just Ye — just being a reflection of our good, our bad, our confusion, everything. The album is more of a reflection of who we are.” expressed the rapper Kanye West, Lasimone, Ashley. “Kanye West Opens Up About Making ‘Ye,’ Being Diagnosed With A ‘Mental Condition'”. While his name is the best name in the world, what’s worse is that there’s no last name, it’s just Ye. How’s he going to feel about that once he gets older? When his kids get older, how would his kids feel about that knowing that their father changed his name from Kanye West to Ye?
Kim Kardashian, on the other hand, has been supportive of Ye’s progress from their separation. Kardashian continues to support Ye’s music career as he helps her with her brands KKW and Skims. Kardashian has decided to not take out West from her name or her kids’ name, as she has posted on instagram, despite Kanye’s decision to do so.
